Presidents Letter:

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in”.
~Author Unknown

I was excited to be there and everyone else was rubbing sleep out of their eyes wondering what we were going to talk about all morning and hoping the meeting didn’t run long. We were gathered together at the CSI board retreat to discuss the events of the past year and make a plan for my term as president. One thing became clear over the course of the retreat: we had plenty of good ideas but not enough hands to do what needed to be done. This wasn’t news.

No, dues money isn’t enough. CSI is a not-for-profit volunteer run organization focused on the design & construction industry. We are only as good as our members and the value we offer is only as valuable as our members make it. If you think professionalism, knowledge, and community are important then you need to contribute to CSI. Do you have a good idea for us to follow up on? A chapter meeting idea? A special event? Tour? Let someone know. Can you offer some time to be at an event? Sponsor an event? organize an event? We’d love that. We are experiencing a time of growth and there have been some new faces at the board meetings lately but there’s plenty of room still at the table. We are already planning for next year, so please let us know how you can make your contribution.

We have a busy month coming up. The 3D printing chapter meeting this Thursday should be very informative. Next week is the South Central Region Conference in Amarillo. I’ve been told that the speakers lined up for the conference are top notch so I’m really looking forward to that. There are still attendee slots open so if your interested signup today. Later in the month is the CSI happy hour at Nations Brewing, where we will get a tour of the brewery and plenty of beer. All the while, we are full steam ahead with promotion of the continuous insulation immersion event happening on May 18. The North Texas Sustainable Showcase & MetroCon planning is also happening but those events are later in the summer. If any of this sounds interesting to you let me know, we can use help with all of them.

Your volunteer hungry president,

Raleigh
